Reborn in the 1980s: I Win My Wife's Heart with Imperial Banquet Cuisine!

"Gamble again, and I'll hold our daughter and die right in front of you!"

On a winter night in 1985, Su Jianguo opened his eyes to his wife's desperate cries.

In his previous life, he had also gambled himself away from this home, driving his wife and daughter to the brink. In the second half of his life, he had thrown himself into the kitchen, working his way up from washing dishes and scrubbing stoves to becoming the head chef of state banquets. He became famous across the country, yet ended up alone. As he lay dying, all he wanted was to smell his family's cooking one more time.

When he opened his eyes again, creditors were pounding on the door, his daughter was crying from hunger, and his wife stood before him with tearful eyes, clutching half a sack of cornmeal.

Su Jianguo slapped himself hard to wake up: in this life, he would first become a good husband!

He pushed his battered three-wheeled cart to the entrance of the cotton mill and set up a big iron pot. Tea eggs, red-braised pork, and heavenly braised pig's trotters: one ladle of his old stock was enough to make the whole city go out of its way for a taste.

In six months, the "gambling bum" became a ten-thousand-yuan household. In a year, he bought a storefront and opened a restaurant. But just as he caught his breath, his heartless second uncle set his sights on the family's street-front shop, the manager of a state-run restaurant smashed up his place and cut off his supplies, and the century-old Fushun Restaurant, which his father-in-law had spent a lifetime defending despite being wrongfully accused, remained firmly in someone else's grasp.

Su Jianguo sneered and sharpened his knife: "I'll take back the signboard, and I'll make this pot famous across all of China. But every penny I earn will go to my wife and daughter!"
