Your Majesty, I Only Want to Make Money, but the Chaste Tyrant Climbs Over the Wall

She was sent to marry into the Marquis’s household in another woman’s place. The heir had a mistress, so Yu Wanzhao was happy to live as a widow in all but name, and casually signed a one-year divorce agreement.

She spent ten hard years at the estate. She had no interest in the rules for young ladies, only a clear-eyed, self-serving mind for making money.

But who could have expected that, in a side hall during a palace banquet, she would be pinned to a brocade couch by the decisive, woman-averse emperor himself?

The emperor Xiao Zhi, rumored to be sinister and violent, had bloodshot eyes. “All under heaven belongs to the emperor. If I want you, do you dare defy my decree?”

Anyone else would have been scared witless, but Yu Wanzhao did not even bat an eyelid. She simply straightened her disheveled collar:

“Since Your Majesty intends to take a minister’s wife by force, please settle the bill first: the contraceptive decoction, the hush money, and my divorce papers.”

Xiao Zhi: “?”

Later, the emperor was caught breaking his vow of chastity in hidden chambers in the palace, by hot springs among the rockeries, and even in the Marquis’s private quarters, climbing in through the windows.

Yu Wanzhao clocked in on time every day. “Are we sneaking around or catching up tonight? If we go over the time limit, there’s an extra charge.”

At last, the self-important, chaste emperor was driven mad by her. His ears red, he gritted his teeth and shoved the imperial seal into her hands:

“You’ve taken my empire. How dare you still talk about divorce?!”
