After failing the civil service exam, Yu Xi takes a well-paid job in a niche field and becomes an outsider in a special line of work: a cleaner for haunted houses.

She plans to keep her head down, scrub toilets and wipe up bloodstains for enough money to settle down. But at the scene of a fall, she accidentally hits her head.

From then on, whenever she stares at an object at a crime scene for ten seconds, she can hear it speak.

The only problem is that these single-celled inanimate objects are worryingly stupid, and never make any sense.

A rusty iron latch grumbles: [Some big-bellied monster kept shoving its waist against me, and the weird liquid that leaked out nearly drowned me!]

The head of a criminal gang slams the table and roars: "Use every connection we have. I want to know everything about this specially appointed consultant!"

A subordinate trembles as he hands over a file: "Boss, she... she applied for a part-time cleaning job at our bathhouse just last month..."

The villains are stunned: "Wait, since when did the city bureau start hiding their crime-busting pioneer among the cleaning staff?!"

Yu Xi shakes the water off her rubber gloves and raises an eyebrow. "Crime is crime, and evil is evil. Anyone who gets in the way of me clocking out and collecting my pay isn't getting away!"
