Lin Xi, the sharpest-tongued product-review blogger on the entire internet. Her catchphrase: "Listen up, everyone, avoid this!"
Until one of her videos tore into the exorbitantly priced aromatherapy products from the "Yan" brand.
"This thing smells like someone sprayed floral water in a public toilet. Anyone who buys it is a complete sucker."
The video went viral, and she received a lawyer's letter from Shen Yan, the brand's founder.
Shen Yan is an extreme perfectionist: aloof, finicky, and so obsessed with details it's downright frightening.
He handed her a contract. "Help me pay off my debts. Be my chief product tester. You'll be the first to tear into every new product, and you'll get a bonus if you do it well."
Lin Xi: "? You're paying someone to roast you?"
Shen Yan: "Mm. Keep at it until I deserve your bad reviews."
So Lin Xi moved into Shen Yan's mansion.
On the first day, she put his slippers at an angle. He called the police.
On the second day, he found instant noodles in her bathtub. She said, "I'm testing stain resistance."
On the third day, she discovered he was afraid of the dark, so every night she "happened" to leave a small nightlight on.
On the fourth day, she found out his alternate account was called "Xi Xi's devoted simp," and that he'd been showering her livestream with luxury gifts.
Later, their "honest reviews" collaboration went viral. Lin Xi paid off her debts and got ready to move out.
Shen Yan stayed up all night editing her negative review videos into a documentary called Let's Fall in Love, then played it on a loop on the giant screen at the airport.
Lin Xi: "Shen Yan, are you crazy?!"
Shen Yan: "Mm, lovesick. You're responsible."
At the press conference, he flipped to the last page of his presentation:
"Results of the improvements: I want to become your lifetime VIP."
Lin Xi: "...Are you proposing or giving a presentation?"
Shen Yan: "Both."
