I'm Clearly the Villain, So Why Are You Making Me Do Good Deeds?

After transmigrating to the Xuanhuang Realm, Gu Tianyu is deemed an anomaly by the Heavenly Dao because his body comes from beyond the heavens. His fortune has been below rock bottom for years, and every time he breaks through a realm, he draws a world-destroying tribulation!

Fortunately, he awakens the [Great Dao Merit Restoration System]. As long as he does good deeds, he can stack Heavenly Dao merit without limit.

On his first day of good deeds, his dying sworn brother entrusts him tearfully: "Tianyu, Qingyi and my mother... I'm leaving them in your care."

Gu Tianyu replies with righteous conviction: "Don't worry, brother. I, Gu, will protect your wife and your mother at all costs, and look after them day and night!"

[Ding! Protecting the widow of a deceased friend and helping her through an urgent crisis counts as a good deed critical hit. Reward: Pure Yang Sacred Body!]

On the wasteland, he happens upon Wang Linfeng, a coffin-carrying youth blessed with great fortune.

Gu Tianyu, moved to tears, becomes sworn brothers with him, then casually activates the Star-Shifting Calamity-Transferring Art. "Second brother, this blessing from the Heavenly Dao is too much for your big brother to bear. Take it as a gift to temper your body and bones!"

Wang Linfeng, blackened and coughing smoke, cries tears of gratitude. "Big brother, you've treated me with boundless kindness. You even drew down a heavenly tribulation to temper my body!"

As for the long banner in his hand, gleaming all over with glazed golden light, containing ninety-nine layers of Netherworld Blood Sea within, and making ten thousand ghosts wail when planted in the ground...

Confronted by the questions of cultivators across the land, saintesses, and Buddhas, Gu Tianyu presses a hand to the banner and declares righteously:

"This is the Banner of the Human Emperor's Merit, gathered from the people! Evildoers are purified inside, and wandering souls atone for their sins here. I've spent my whole life doing good and accumulating merit. How dare you slander my good name out of thin air?!"
