Before the school anniversary performance, Lin Ting is pulled at the last minute into an all-girl band to fill in. After years of studying violin, she's used to following sheet music, but she never expected the hardest thing to keep up with would be her two bandmates' feelings.
Liang Yu, the lead singer, is two years older than her. She's languid offstage, but once she steps into the spotlight, it's impossible to look away. At first, Lin Ting thinks Liang Yu's gaze while she sings falls on everyone equally. Then the casual jokes gradually turn into a special kind of favoritism reserved just for her.
Jiang Cheng, the lead guitarist in Lin Ting's year, is much more demanding. If the rhythm is off, they have to start again. If the timing is bad, they have to practice more. And she's always the one who stays with Lin Ting until the very end. But when Liang Yu gets close to Lin Ting again, Jiang Cheng finally realizes that some kinds of displeasure really can't be explained away as "for the band."
In the practice room, they haven't even perfected a song yet, but the three of them have already crossed the line. The drummer and bassist watch the show from the sidelines, until they, too, end up with secrets of their own.
The show must go on, but their feelings are getting harder and harder to hide. Lin Ting finally realizes that filling in takes only one night, but sorting out the trouble left behind by falling in love could take her whole college career.
