(A dark, realistic story. Not for readers who dislike that.)
(The first story is told in first person. Skip it if you don't like that; all the rest are in third person.)
I used to think horror stories were all made up.
But people pray to Buddha for good fortune, wear talismans for wealth, and carry jade for safety. Everyone wants a little blessing.
Some unusual spirits hide amid the bustle of everyday life, using people's obsessions as bait and mortal bodies as raw material to create one cruel disaster after another, each flawlessly concealed.
The old folks say, "Raise your head three feet and there are gods above." No one says that what lies three feet above your head might be something else.
Can the souls of the dead live forever? Can worshipping an allegedly miraculous statue really make your wishes come true? Can you use offerings to the God of Wealth to crush your business rival? Would you like a pet with a spirit of its own that obeys your every command? Have you ever heard of a white fox effigy?
Today, I'll tell you the old tales of the hidden world that lie beneath the bustle of everyday life.
But don't look back.
If you do, it will know you saw it.
[Friendly reminder: Read with the lights on]
Greedy wishes burn beneath the golden Buddha
A spirit walker roams the city's alleys
Three feet above your head, no gods are there
Half a life in splendor, half a life as a soul
It's pretty good for dinner 🤭
