A Ten-Thousandfold Rebate: I Save the World by Embezzling Paper Cranes

[Urban] [Embezzlement Payback System] [Subverting Expectations] [Tearjerker] [Heartbreaking Redemption]

[If I carry the hopes of others, then I need not call myself a lone wanderer.]

"Qin Mo, you even embezzled the paper cranes meant for the children in the mountains? Are you even human?!"

In the video, I cheerfully cram more than six thousand paper cranes into my trunk, while seven-year-old A Miao sobs her heart out.

The whole internet erupts. Three hundred thousand comments say I should die.

My college roommates cut ties with me, and the old leader who treated me like his own son orders me to get lost.

No one knows that three days later, the mountain village's elementary school, which couldn't even afford chalk, welcomes a brand-new school building funded in full.

I've bound myself to the "Counter-Corruption System."

As long as I steal the purest goodwill people offer and bear enough public condemnation, the System will repay them ten or a hundred times over.

But I can never explain. Not a single word.

During flood relief, I snatch an old man's life-saving duck in front of everyone. While roads and bridges are being built, I take the rice with cured meat a little girl brings on her sore, blistered feet.

As I watch the whole internet wish they could tear me limb from limb, I swallow my sour rice ball and smile like a madman.

Curse me. The harsher the curses, the brighter the light in this world.
