Period: After Breaking Off My Engagement, I Turned a Mountain Forest into a Fortune

Zhang Weiguo is reborn, back on his wedding day in 1970.

In his previous life, his new bride ran off with another man on their wedding day. He meekly endured it for the rest of his life, tormented by his stepmother and ignored by his father. His younger brother died at forty-three because they couldn't afford to treat his illness, and his younger sister was left permanently disabled and married a widower. He spent nearly seventy years swallowing his grievances, never once able to let out a satisfying breath.

In this life, his bride still runs off.

Zhang Weiguo says, "Good riddance."

That very day, he stands up to his stepmother's schemes and forces the family to split up, taking his share of the grain, the house, and the elder-care agreement, leaving nothing behind. Then he goes straight to the Du family, gets the betrothal gifts back and makes them pay for the lumber. He doesn't let them get away with taking a single cent from him.

On the first day after the split, he takes his animal traps up the mountain and carries back a wild boar weighing two hundred jin.

Everyone in the village says Zhang Weiguo has gone crazy. But no one knows that his mind is full of what he learned about the decades to come. He remembers what goods can be found on each mountain, what fish each river yields in each season, and the years when policies will change.

His stepmother tries to steal his money? He hits back. A local thug tries to take advantage of him? He hits back. Someone thinks he can be bullied because he's the unlucky man whose engagement was broken off? He hits back all the same.

As for Song Xiaoyu, the quiet young educated woman from the city who has come to work in the countryside... Zhang Weiguo has only one thing to say: in this life, no one will ever bully her.
