Dongguan’s Wild Ride: From Village Punk to Counterfeit Phone Tycoon

[No System] [Built from Scratch] [Set in 2004] [Business Rivalry] [Decisive and Ruthless] [Warlord] [Rags to Riches] [Border Trader]

In 2004, heavy snow cut off the village. Twenty-one-year-old poor kid Li Qiang watched his childhood friend Ergou drive up in a secondhand Santana, returning home in style with a factory girl in black stockings riding shotgun.

“You’ve been hanging around the village for years and still haven’t amounted to anything. Come south with me and be a wage slave!”

Stung by his childhood friend’s handout and humiliation, Li Qiang packed his things and headed south to Dongguan, eyes bloodshot.

His pockets were emptier than his face? He played dirty and made off with a thief’s genuine batteries, then turned around and pocketed a whopping nine hundred yuan!

Forced to sleep on someone else’s sofa? Unable to pay rent? Looked down on by everyone?

From a secondhand stall in an urban village, to a clattering bootleg phone workshop, and then to the floor-to-ceiling windows of a legitimate electronics company on Shennan Boulevard.

Li Qiang was like a starving wild dog, biting through every rule. A proud heiress fallen on hard times, a formidable queen of the components business, and factory girls from the assembly line... They all became pieces of his business empire.
