The world undergoes a global mutation as fictional characters from novels, films, and anime break through the dimensional barrier and arrive in reality.
Lu Jingle, a third-rate web novelist whose greatest hobby is going on hiatus and leaving stories unfinished, has a habit of killing or crippling his protagonists. His villains, meanwhile, tend to slaughter the world and die alone. One night, the cold empress who slaughtered half the universe in his book kicks open his rental apartment door in bloodstained armor and presses a world-destroying demonic sword to his neck. "So my entire family dying, my first love betraying me, and my ending of ten thousand years in solitude... You made all that up just to pad the word count?"
Then a scheming saintess of an immortal sect, an obsessive heiress to a corporate empire, and a hot-tempered interstellar commander show up one after another. The Dimensional Crisis Response Bureau is horrified to discover that these world-ending beings, who would normally require nuclear weapons just to hold them back, are gathered outside the home of a young man in flip-flops, fighting over who gets to make him change the script first.
Trembling, Lu Jingle opens his computer. Thank goodness, he still has access to the author dashboard. As long as he writes and updates, he can directly change his characters' fates, equipment, and even personalities. A villain is about to unleash a big move? He types furiously: "She suddenly slipped and fainted," and she drops on the spot.
But as more and more characters arrive, Lu Jingle realizes things aren't that simple. Why are his characters the only ones who retain all their memories? Why is the Crisis Response Bureau so secretive about his identity? And the characters he wrote off seem to be gathering in some unknown dimension...
This is an absurd battleground between creator and creation, as well as a hilarious epic about a failed novelist forced to get back to work and save the world.
I'll save up and watch it again, @halfmint. Can I not have a realistic heroine?
