Lin Xiaoman, twenty-three years old. Her day job consists of making spreadsheets, editing images, and writing weekly reports. Her biggest gripe is the high minimum order for food delivery; her second biggest is a broken lipstick.
Then she transmigrates.
She ends up in a bizarre place called the sixth year of Zhongping.
She thinks she’s dreaming, until a dark-skinned farmer carrying a hoe tells her his name is Cao Cao. A Cao Cao who farms. A Cao Cao whose dream is to build irrigation canals. A Cao Cao who’s afraid of the authorities.
She thinks she’s going insane, until she hears that Liu Bei is a frail scholar, Guan Yu is a nearsighted strategist, Zhang Fei is a handsome germaphobe, Sun Quan is an illiterate boatman, Zhou Yu can smash someone’s head with a single oar, and Lü Bu is a dwarf.
No System, no status screen, no beginner’s gift. No martial arts, no supernatural powers, no golden finger.
All she has is a reasonably likable face, sewing skills just good enough to earn her a meal, a heart that doesn’t want to die, and the modern office worker’s knack for reading people and instinct for staying alive.
But staying alive is no easy task. The Remnant Palace Merchant Guild squeezes people for taxes, the Beggar Heaven Gang steals grain, the salt merchants sow discord, and the Mechanism Cavern is full of hidden dangers. The emperor is a teenage club president who sells official posts and memberships; Dong Zhuo is a kindly old man who runs a soup kitchen; Yuan Shao is afraid of blood, Yuan Shu is a beggar, Zhuge Liang grows vegetables in Nanyang, and Sima Yi tells stories on the street.
The heroes are all out of place, but the chaotic times still devour people.
Lin Xiaoman has no ambition to change the world and no ability to turn the tide. She just wants to find somewhere safe, eat her fill, get a good night’s sleep, and maybe meet a few friends who are a little strange.
She’s just an ordinary person swept up in a time of chaos.
The Three Kingdoms? This isn’t the Three Kingdoms we know!
