With her father gravely ill, Yan Shu plans to propose to her boyfriend of three years, only to accidentally catch him passionately kissing her cousin's wife in a taxi.
Heartbroken, Yan Shu opens her contacts, finds the man who once proposed to her, and sends a message with her eyes closed:
“Tomorrow at nine in the morning, at the civil affairs bureau. Are you coming?”
The next day, Yan Shu sees her direct superior, the man her boyfriend fears most, Huo Yucheng, waiting outside the bureau.
He holds a household register and looks at her calmly.
“Weren't we getting our marriage certificate? I brought all the documents.”
Only then does Yan Shu realize she sent last night's message to the wrong person.
With her father running out of time, she has no choice but to grit her teeth and marry him.
They agreed it would be a marriage of convenience, each getting what they needed. But Huo Yucheng takes his role as her “husband” more and more seriously:
He brings her a cup of warm milk when she works late, remembers all her little habits, and holds her hand at her father's bedside as he calls him “Dad.”
Then one day, drunk, he pins her in a corner and murmurs a secret he's kept for three years:
“Shushu, I've been waiting for that message from you... for three years.”
Yan Shu suddenly smiles.
It turns out the person who truly loves you has had the household register ready all along, just waiting for you to give the word.
