Eerie Cultivation: I Arrange Funerals for the Immortals

New book! New book!

[Lovecraftian cultivation + Chinese folk customs + twists + cultivation + boy on a mission to save his sister]

Shen Yan first saw an immortal while painting the death portrait of a drowned boy.

The corpse lay on a door slab, its face swollen and pale from the water. But with each stroke of his brush, the features on the paper grew more like the River God statue at the entrance to the village.

Outside, gongs and drums thundered. The immortal masters of the Taiyi Dushi Sect had returned to their hometown to select promising disciples, and they chose his younger sister, Shen Xiaodeng, at first sight. The whole village came to congratulate them, saying the Shen family would be blessed with a living bodhisattva.

But in the clan genealogy at the ancestral hall, Shen Yan saw that the names of the chosen disciples from past generations were all fading. Their parents remembered that the family had once produced an immortal master, yet could no longer recall what their children had been called.

Only the final stroke of Xiaodeng's name remained.

In three days, she would receive her register and ascend to immortality.

That night, a line of bloody writing seeped from the blank spirit tablet his master had left behind:

"To distinguish humans from immortals, first call a person by name."

Only then did Shen Yan understand: cultivation did not turn people into gods. It let gods inhabit human shells, return to life through corpses, and restore their immortal bodies.

That was why immortals in this world could not die.

Fortunately, Shen Yan knew how to conduct funerals. He would become a: Buryer of Immortals!
