The Day I Got Fired, I Found a Grudge-Holding Ledger

The day they pinned Lin Chuan to the conference table to sign his resignation agreement, the HR manager's face turned paler than printer paper.

She didn't know that everyone who had ever wronged him, from the interviewer who made him wait three hours three years ago to the boss who withheld fourteen months of wages, had been entered as a debtor in a suddenly appeared old ledger. Every debt was listed, one by one, waiting to be repaid.

That very afternoon, the day he was fired, he made the HR manager apologize and transfer the money in front of the whole company. Then he made the boss repay all fourteen months of wages, plus compensation, in front of the employees.

They called him crazy and asked why he still held a grudge after leaving the company. Lin Chuan smiled. "I don't hold grudges. I keep accounts."

Later, he collected debts from the boardrooms of business titans and top investment banks. Even his former girlfriend, who hadn't given him a second glance back then, eventually knelt and asked him, "Who are you, really?"

Lin Chuan opened the ledger and slapped an IOU down on the table. "It's time to pay the next debt."

There was only one person whose debt he couldn't collect: the tax auditor who checked his accounts every day and owed nobody in this life. She became the one entry he could never balance.
