An imperial decree from Li Shimin turns Pei Jiuyuan from a minor official in the Eastern Palace into an exiled convict in Lingnan.

But as soon as he reaches the desolate camp, he hears a prompt ring out in his mind.

[Ding! Great Tang Agricultural Revolution System activated.]

[Whenever the Host solves a production problem, he will receive a reward from the era.]

Others think saline soil is only good for making salt, but he flushes it with stream water, enriches it with sea fertilizer, and grows rice yielding a thousand jin per mu.

Others think the beach is only good for feeding mosquitoes, but he gathers crabs along the shore and trades them for fine salt, food, and iron tools.

Others think exiles are all useless, but he turns old farmers into agricultural managers, a one-armed blacksmith into a master steelmaker, and a group of starving men into a land-clearing crew.

In just three months, the desolate camp has grain, fields have sprung up on the salt flats, and everyone is working with him to put food on the table.

When a local official tries to take forty percent, he negotiates land-use rights on the spot.

When the great families of Chang'an try to seize his rice seeds, he has already prepared contracts and yield records.

And "Li Erlang," who has been coming by to buy fish, finally reveals a jade pendant bearing the character Qin.

"Pei Jiuyuan, do you understand that a yield of a thousand jin per mu could change the world?"

Pei Jiuyuan gazes at the golden rice fields behind him and answers without hesitation.

"I can't promise to change the world."

"But I'll start by changing Lingnan."
