The Fruit Stand at No. 76 Xiafei Road

"I'm not a secret agent. I'm really just a fruit seller."

Shen Chang'an is a fruit vendor at the entrance to an alley in Shanghai's French Concession.

His biggest daily worry is that A-Zhen at the wonton stall next door has raised her prices again.

Then one rainy night, he saves a "fruit wholesaler" covered in blood.

From then on, his life changes from "How much should I charge for oranges today?" to...

Hiding intelligence in the bellies of live fish, sending coded messages with fruit price signs, and getting information out of a secret agent's wife with a packet of sunflower seeds...

The enemy puts a bounty of three thousand silver dollars on his head.

The first thing fellow secret agents ask when they meet him is, "What's the real story with that fruit seller?"

His superior, Old Zhao, tells him, "Remember, you're just an orange."

Shen Chang'an jams his fruit knife into the table.

"An orange? I'm going to be a station chief!"
