In the seventh year of the apocalypse, the Beicheng Base relied on the crops Shen Qiu grew to feed thousands, yet treated him as expendable, ready to send him out on supply runs at any moment.
During one trip outside the city, he fled a horde of zombies and took shelter in an abandoned experimental farm. The zombies howled outside, but not one dared cross the three faded white lines.
When Shen Qiu returned to the base with this way to survive, the north gate had already fallen. His younger sister, Shen Ning, had been bitten while protecting the children in the seed vault, then locked herself inside. By the time he found her, she had become a zombie.
After dying outside the seed vault, Shen Qiu opened his eyes again, back seven days before the base fell.
This time, he would reclaim the seeds, take his sister away, and find out who had replaced the access code on that vehicle used to collect the infected with the correct one.
More than that, he would turn the abandoned field no one wanted into his own path to survival.
But when the first bloodstained tomato ripened, Shen Qiu saw the memories of the dead from the moments before their deaths. In those memories was the access code for the Beicheng Base, too.
