Synopsis
[Puns + comedic everyday life + bickering couple + slow-paced healing]
Yao Tiao is known throughout the stand-up comedy world as the "queen of comebacks." She's gentle offstage and wild on it. After an accident involving a stage light rig, she transmigrates into the most overlooked concubine-born daughter of the Minister of Personnel's household.
The moment she opens her eyes, her legal stepmother and elder half-sister are wailing and making a scene: "Little sister, Prince Xian is cursed to bring death to his wives, and he's got a hard life. You have to marry him in your sister's place!"
The original owner had drowned herself over this marriage. Yao Tiao springs up from the bed, eyes shining. "I'll marry him! Absolutely! Anyone who won't is a little dog!"
The whole capital settles in to watch the Yao family's concubine-born daughter crash and burn in Prince Xian's household. Instead, they get one outrageous stunt after another.
At a family banquet, she tells jokes in front of everyone and has the old madam slapping her thighs with laughter. At the Empress Dowager's birthday celebration, she performs a comedy sketch that nearly makes the Empress Dowager laugh herself breathless. Even the emperor can't help asking at court, "What new jokes does Princess Xian have for us today?"
Her half-sister tries to humiliate her, only to be talked into a blind date with the stablehand. Her father's concubine tries to dock her allowance, so Yao Tiao gets her into "livestreaming products from home" and earns more than her stepmother.
Everyone assumes that Gu Dexian, the aloof prince said to bring death to his wives, will eventually divorce his madcap princess. But someone spots the usually dignified prince crouching by the wall of his mansion, roasting sweet potatoes with her, then getting chased around as she tries to snatch half a potato from him.
Yao Tiao: "Gu Dexian, aren't you a little childish? I was roasting that first!"
Gu Dexian holds a birdcage, perfectly composed. "This prince owns the mansion, so naturally he owns the sweet potatoes too."
The people of the capital: ...Did these two escape from some traveling theater troupe?
[No scheming and backstabbing in the household, no angsty melodrama. Just a lighthearted story.]
