You’re All Turning into Paper Effigies Just So I Can Ascend?

In this age of calamity, the living are worth less than dogs. The old eunuch Wei Jiuqian adopts eighteen children to search for the Ascension Platform, hoping to sacrifice them, set himself on fire, and ascend to immortality. When it’s Lu Changsheng’s turn, he looks into the bottomless incense burner and breaks into a grotesquely twisted grin. “Master, when it comes to becoming an immortal, you’re the elder here. Naturally, you should be the first to burn!”

After forcing his master to his death and leaping into the incense burner, Lu Changsheng is sure he’ll be welcomed into the ranks of the immortals. But when he opens his eyes… the so-called prestigious sects are actually enormous tombs! The exalted immortals are all paper effigies with painted red cheeks! Cultivation isn’t about refining qi at all, but making paper effigies to borrow lives!

Staring at the gods and buddhas filling the sky, Lu Changsheng swallows and awakens the [Incense and Fire Dharma Form]. You burn paper money? I’ll steal it! You offer burial artifacts? I’ll devour them!

Years later, the paper immortals across the sky tremble as they watch a colossal Dharma Form swallow the entire Heavenly Court in one bite. Lu Changsheng picks his teeth. “So you’re the immortals everyone talks about? You’re not much of a chew.”
