Cheng Ye transmigrates into an orphan and opens his eyes to find a Nightmare chasing him.
This thing shows up whenever it pleases. It drops from the ceiling while he's eating, stands beside his bed while he's sleeping, and can get right behind him in the blink of an eye. It only chases certain people, and bystanders can't see it or be harmed by it. Cheng Ye is one of those "certain people."
As it chased him, he discovered two things:
While being chased, his strength increases on its own. The harder it chases him, the faster he grows.
If he can hold out against the Nightmare long enough, he'll be able to see where its weaknesses are. If he can't last three seconds, then he'll try for thirty. If thirty seconds is too much, then three minutes. Every second costs him his life.
Other people run when they see a Nightmare. He's different: he charges in and takes a beating. Once he's taken enough hits, a green light flashes, and every weakness is laid bare before his eyes.
He finds a group of other people being chased and holes up with them in a rundown place called the Survival Club. They have no ideals or lofty ambitions. They gathered for one reason and one reason only: to stay alive.
The club leader, limping, gave him a look. "Being chased? Stay, then. Survive as long as you can."
Cheng Ye tossed his backpack into a corner and turned to face the pitch-black alley outside.
"Survive as long as I can... Fine, then let's get through today first."
Stay alive first. Worry about what comes after later.
