The Years I Worked as a Spirit Medium

When I was eight, I came down with both a real illness and a spiritual affliction. My fever would not break, and I babbled deliriously. Everyone in the village said I was insane. Even my fiancée's family came to break off the engagement and humiliate me. They had no idea that an old immortal was opening my spiritual channels. I was born to serve the immortals! On the eve of my eighteenth birthday, a fake spirit medium led a mob to burn me alive as an evil spirit. Just as I faced death, nine mighty immortals came riding through the snow and forcibly opened my celestial aperture! “You dare bully the incense child of my altar? Did you ask whether this immortal has his mourning staff in hand?!” Grandfather Hu San bestowed the Eye of Fate upon me. Chang Tianqing lent me his demon-slaying blade. Elder Huang Jiu taught me the Bewildering Soul Formation! I light three sticks of incense, establish a hall between yin and yang, cross the boundary between the living and the dead, and set right every injustice in the mortal world!
