The corpse in the body bag suddenly opens its eyes and calls emergency physician Shen Yanchuan “Xiaochuan.”
A long bronze spike is embedded in the dead man's chest, and beneath it a second heart is growing. Everyone wants to pull out the spike, but Shen Yanchuan sees what they cannot: the pain in the flesh is coming together to form a map.
Following this map of pain, he brings the “dead man” back to life, then receives a plea for help from his father, missing for twelve years, sent from the First Emperor's sealed tomb:
“Bring the spike to Heishui Ridge.”
“And one more thing: don't trust me.”
From a black river hanging upside down from a tomb ceiling to Qin terracotta warriors that use patients' heartbeats to open doors; from an imperial physician who has survived for two thousand years to the still-beating “Imperial Heart” deep inside the First Emperor's mausoleum, others enter tombs in search of immortality. Shen Yanchuan has only one job:
Get the living out.
Anyone who uses patients to clear the way is not getting out alive.
