The protagonist, Chen Yan, has the worst kind of Five-Element Turbid Spiritual Root and is sold to a mine belonging to Chixia Sect. Others cultivate immortality with pills, techniques, and the guidance of masters. He can't even keep a single intact spirit stone for himself; all he can do is venture deep into the mines each day and dig up cultivation resources for the immortal sect.
After a cave-in, he begins to hear voices in the rock.
Ore echoes, cracks murmur, underground fire breathes, and spirit veins buried for tens of thousands of years beat like hearts in the darkness.
At first, he only wants to find a safe tunnel and escape the mine with his younger sister. But then he discovers that some force is draining the spirit veins across the entire cultivation world, and his father, who disappeared years ago, was the first to uncover the truth.
