One Hundred Thousand a Month to Babysit a Big Shot's Niece

A paper effigy shop girl who hates owing people × a cold CEO who doesn't know how to love

A tender game of give and take

She thought she was taking a job, but ended up giving herself away. Tao Zhi, the poor girl from the paper effigy shop, has one special talent: seeing ghosts. She can see the dead and pass on their messages. But she never uses it to make money, because Grandma says that charging for seeing ghosts will shorten your life.

Then one day, a Maybach pulled up at the entrance to the old alley.

Pei Yan, vice president of Yanshan Real Estate, is cold and taciturn, with "keep your distance" written all over him. His younger brother jumped to his death, leaving behind a four-year-old daughter, Nuonuo. Since then, Nuonuo hasn't spoken a word.

He offered Tao Zhi one hundred thousand a month to keep Nuonuo company.

Tao Zhi thought it was a simple caregiving job, until she discovered that every picture Nuonuo drew featured the red cord on her wrist; that Pei Lin, Pei Yan's younger brother, had been standing beneath the osmanthus tree ever since his death, unwilling to leave; and that the cold CEO was clumsily, stubbornly drawing her into a "home" she never would have dared to enter.

All her life, she'd only known how to keep accounts, and she'd been afraid of owing anyone even the smallest amount. But Pei Yan kept making her owe him, one thing after another: a pair of shoes, a cup of honey water, a "Have you eaten?", a picture of three little people holding hands...

When she finally worked up the courage to open her ledger, she discovered that the last page read:

"Pei Yan, I owe you a 'Brother, are you okay?' But I don't know if those words still count."
