Gu Chenzhou, a criminal investigator in Linjiang City, received a box of personal effects from seven days in the future.
Inside were his police ID, his service pistol with one bullet missing, and a death certificate. His death was dated seven days from now, at 2:13 a.m. The person who had identified him, however, was Jiang Jibai, who had died ten years ago.
As the investigation unfolded, Gu Chenzhou discovered that some people hadn’t died. They were being erased by the combined force of official records, institutions, and the memories of their friends and family. Pier Seven, which didn’t exist on any map, delivered personal effects just before someone was erased from reality. Every time the fog bell rang, another part of their identity vanished.
To survive the next seven days, Gu Chenzhou had no choice but to work with the reappeared Jiang Jibai and investigate cases that couldn’t be officially recorded. But every time Jiang Jibai examined an item, he permanently lost one of his own memories.
As the evidence began pointing to the future and memories became unreliable, they had to prove each other’s existence before the world forgot them.
