1937: Spies and Intrigue, The Many Faces of the Third Concubine

Sui Qiuyu, a modern special forces instructor, finds herself transported back to 1937 and becomes the third concubine of a grain merchant's family patriarch, who is about to offer her to Japanese commander Ono Shinichi. Using her golden finger, a talent for disguises that lets her transform her appearance at will, she averts the first attempt to sacrifice her and makes contact with Li Shangzhong, an underground Communist Party operative. Her codename is “Startling Swan.” During nine years undercover, she recruits her close friend Shen Mingxian, the second concubine Feng Huayu, the cook Cheng Futian, and her husband Song Benchang into a four-pronged intelligence network. Together, they infiltrate military headquarters and secretly provide supplies, while she engages in a battle of wits with the suspicious Ono Shinichi. On the eve of the counteroffensive against the Japanese, she faces deadly suspicion but cleverly stages her escape and returns to her unit, providing crucial intelligence for the final battle. At the surrender ceremony, she witnesses the enemy's defeat and the awakening and redemption of those around her. Having fulfilled her mission, she retires and becomes herself again.
