Awakening Kite: Abandoned on My Wedding Night, I’ll Use a Thousand Faces to Turn the Tables

On their wedding night in Fengtian in 1927, an urgent military order sent the groom, Qian Wusong, far beyond the Shanhai Pass, leaving behind a city full of rumors and an empty bridal chamber. Xie Yiyuan never became entangled in love, nor was she troubled by society's censure. Calmly, she took off her wedding ring and slipped it onto her index finger, then swore an oath on a silver ring. From that day on, she would live with clarity and independence, breaking free to begin anew.

She devoted herself to her studies and broadened her knowledge, transforming herself at Northeastern University. She became a teacher at a girls' school in Fengtian, infiltrating the heart of the Japanese military families' community. With her pen as a blade and her wits as armor, she wove a secret network of communist intelligence. Meanwhile, Qian Wusong went to Japan to study, forging his revolutionary convictions and mastering military technology. After returning to China, he made his way to Ruijin and took root on the battlefield, defending his country and its people.

They were husband and wife in name only, but also revolutionary comrades who held their ground across mountains and seas. For thirteen years, their paths ran in parallel as each grew to their full potential. At last, amid the flames of war in South China in 1940, they reunited and had a child. Yet the road to dawn was steeped in hardship. In 1949, just as victory in the War of Liberation was within reach, Qian Wusong was lost forever on the eve of triumph.

Red flags swept down the streets, and at last the land was at peace. Holding her young son by the hand, Xie Yiyuan stood amid the flourishing new era, witnessing with her own eyes, on behalf of her beloved, the dawn of a new China and the glory they had devoted their lives to reaching.
