The 1980s: A Blessed Girl Who Speaks Animal Tongues Strikes It Rich with Her Family

[Period-era cuteness + mountain foraging and treasure hunting + farming + building a fortune + face-slapping and taking down scumbags]

Five-year-old Su Nanxing sits on the doorstep, listening as her grandmother calls the second branch of the family “money-losing burdens.” She turns around, sneaks the last two eggs from the chicken coop, and swallows them whole right in front of her cousin.

Born with a knack for holding a grudge, she’ll never let her meek parents suffer another loss!

Her father is injured falling while gathering herbs on the mountain, and the family is cruelly cast out with nothing. The whole village waits to see the second branch begging for food.

But no one knows that Nanxing has ears that can understand the language of birds.

The sparrows, magpies, and owls in the mountains are all her scouts and treasure-finding radar!

Guided by the birds’ chatter, little Nanxing expertly avoids venomous snakes and wild beasts, digging up prized reishi mushrooms, century-old ginseng, and rare dendrobium deep in the mountains.

She and her parents prepare precious medicinal herbs and start trading mountain goods. In just a few years, they become the richest family in town.

The awful relatives who once bullied them aren’t even worthy of carrying the second branch’s shoes now!

When her eldest uncle’s family shamelessly comes to borrow money, little Nanxing hasn’t even said a word before a flock of crows in the courtyard unleashes a “rain of bird droppings,” sending them fleeing with their heads covered.

Trying to take advantage of the second branch?
