[Military romance in the 1970s + two contrasting sides + baby-faced big shot + identity reveal and face-slapping + sweet everyday romance + steamy and wholesome moments] Gu Yanshen, the roughest and wildest officer in the military compound, is dodging his mother’s thirty-eighth matchmaking setup. Fully geared up, he climbs over the wall and makes a break for it. The moment he lands, a “high school girl” with twin ponytails and chubby cheeks flips him over her shoulder and pins him to the ground. Gu Yanshen: “Miss, it’s just a matchmaking date. Is that really necessary?” Shen Luzhu clutches the briefcase in her hands and warily backs away. This man is acting suspiciously. Could he be a spy here to steal data? Gu Yanshen: “Come on, say something! I’ll go on a date with you, okay?” Shen Luzhu fixes him with a knife-sharp stare. “You want the code phrase? Tell me who your contact is!” After their whirlwind marriage. When the Gu family sees a photo of their daughter-in-law, Gu’s father silently pulls out a wolf-brand belt. “You beast! You tricked a minor!” When he learns that Shen Luzhu is not only an adult but also a nationally renowned military engineering expert, Gu’s father looks his son up and down. “Wait, you think you’re good enough for her? What does she see in you? That you can take a beating?” When the Shen family hears about their son-in-law’s past, they shake their heads. “He’s too wild. He’ll never be able to take care of a family!” But after the wedding, they see Gu Yanshen wearing an apron every day, making seafood stew to nourish their daughter’s brain, washing her feet, and mopping the floor. Shen’s father changes his tune. “Xiao Gu, you’ve really worked hard for this family.” The military wives in the compound crack sunflower seeds and gossip. “I heard that little country girl from the Gu family can barely read.” Then one day, A military jeep pulls up outside the family housing compound. A military leader adjusts his cap and salutes the baby-faced young woman crouching on the ground, playing with a cat. The entire compound falls silent.
