1991, Taohua Village.
Lin Qiuyue waits three years for her husband, who left to find work in the city. What comes back is the man with a pregnant city woman.
He not only forces her to divorce him, but wants to keep their six-year-old daughter and drive Lin Qiuyue out of the house alone.
Everyone tells her to put up with it.
But Lin Qiuyue tears up the divorce agreement in front of the whole village and boards a long-distance bus to the city with her daughter.
With only twenty-three yuan to her name, she sleeps at the bus station, washes dishes, and gets bullied at a garment factory. Later, with an old sewing machine borrowed from someone else, she starts by altering clothes, then gradually opens a clothing shop and builds a garment factory.
The husband who once thought she was useless kneels at her shop entrance, begging her to come home.
The in-laws who once looked down on her also want to bring the whole family to live off her.
But by then, two men have appeared in Lin Qiuyue’s life.
One is a long-distance bus driver who took her in when she was at her lowest.
The other is a garment factory owner willing to put up his entire fortune to help her build a factory.
Everyone wants to know which one Lin Qiuyue will choose in the end.
But the first person she chooses is herself.
I really like this book. The characters are so realistic. The more I read it, the more I love it. It's full of positive energy. I give it five stars.
