Madness: Thirty Years Later

Thirty years after the meteor crossed the Earth, the Madness virus has long since ravaged all of human civilization. The lower-tier infected have died out over the years. The remaining “Grinning Wraiths” retain their full intelligence, are skilled with weapons, and delight in slaughter and torture. They are the most vicious hunters roaming the wasteland. Order has completely collapsed. Bandits rule from the mountains, while survivors huddle in the wild countryside, struggling to stay alive between the virus and the violence of their fellow humans.

Fang Wuyan, a former mercenary, bears old scars from battles and betrayal. Living under an assumed name in the remote town of Niniwa, he survives by venturing deep into infected zones to scavenge supplies from the old world. He thought he would spend the rest of his life in that muddy little town, until a bandit raid turned his home into a wasteland.

Taking the orphan girl Simin and his fiancee Xinya aboard an escape barge, he accidentally uncovers a dirty deal between the boat owner and river pirates, and rescues Duan Li and her child from captivity. After a night of bloody fighting, he kills every villain aboard. The group escapes on a rubber raft, drifting for their lives until they accidentally reach an isolated, unnamed deserted island.

The jungle blocks out the sun, and predators lurk. The eerie laughter drifting from deep within the forest suggests that this island is no safe haven. The infected who vanished during the epidemic may have already evolved into something even more terrifying on this untrodden land.

Digging ponds to raise fish, building doors to guard their cave, and smoking meat to store for later, Fang Wuyan uses his battlefield combat skills and wilderness survival experience to build a refuge in this desolate wilderness for three women and a swaddled infant.

There are no reinforcements, no return date, and no home left in the wasteland. On the deserted island, every path leads to death. When mad laughter cuts through the long night from deep in the forest, the knife and gun in his hands are the only barriers protecting the last remnants of humanity.
