The Deposed Empress Sells Barbecue, and the Entire Court Chases After Her

[Food + feel-good wish fulfillment + System + business + face-slapping]

Su Jinyao wakes up to find she’s become the Empress, deposed and banished to the Cold Palace. Before she can even freak out, the Cold Palace collapses around her. The emperor is deposing her to take another wife, and has her thrown out on the street.

Penniless, she’s also bound to a “Barbecue Deity System.”

Su Jinyao: “Fine. I’m done being Empress. I’ll set up a street stall!”

The coals flare, the cumin goes on, and out come secret-recipe grilled pork belly, lava-filled grilled eggplant, mouthwatering pig trotters, spicy grilled pig brains...

The whole street goes wild over the smell.

At first, the officials mock her: “The deposed empress has sunk to selling food on the street. What a disgrace.”

Later...

The Minister of Personnel: “These grilled lamb legs... I’d trade my third-rank post for ten skewers!”

The commander of the Imperial Guards: “Don’t shove! I’ve been in line for three hours!”

Even the cold-faced emperor visits in disguise and squats in front of her stall. He says, “I’m only here incognito,” while polishing off twenty skewers.

Su Jinyao: “Want some? Get in line. The Empress’s throne? I don’t want it anymore.”

From deposed empress in the Cold Palace to barbecue queen, she uses a bed of coals to make an entire dynasty drool.
