Three-and-a-half-year-old Jiang Nuonuo is abandoned at the entrance to a martyrs' cemetery.

She doesn't cry or fuss. Hugging a little rusty bell, she says in her babyish voice, "Uncle, someone's lost and can't find their way home. They say they're cold."

Everyone thinks the child is making things up.

Until the national team searching for fallen heroes follows her directions and digs up the remains of a hero who went missing seventy years ago.

In his arms, the hero is still clutching an unsent letter to his family.

The entire internet is instantly in tears.

Later, Nuonuo is placed under the nation's protection and becomes its youngest "Homecoming Guide."

Snowy mountains, islands, borders, old factories, deserted villages, overseas archives…

Holding an adult's hand, she listens to voices buried by time.

"Tell my mother I wasn't a deserter."

"My comrades are still over the mountain. Don't take me back alone."

"Don't cry. I'm just late getting home."

Some accuse her of putting on a show, some want to exploit her for profit, and some hide the truth.

But every time, Nuonuo uses her softest baby voice to tear apart the hardest lies.

She says, "Hero grandpas aren't afraid of dying, but they're afraid no one will remember them."

From then on, the mountains and rivers bear witness, and the lights in a thousand homes guide the way.

The nation brings them home, and the people remember their names.

And the little girl who was once abandoned is tenderly embraced by her entire country, with every hero she helps return home.
