[Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation fan fiction | An entirely new original side story, unaffiliated with the official work] A desolate village on the border between Qinghe and Lanling is plagued by a strange phenomenon: every night, the dead rise and walk, repeating the actions they performed in life. At dawn, they collapse, their resentment undispelled. Jiang Cheng sends for help, and Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji investigate. They discover that every deceased villager had come into contact with “spirit-calming stones” sold on the black market. Carved into the stones are ancient runes erased from the history books of the cultivation sects.
Following the trail, the two find a desolate mountain that has vanished from the maps of the cultivation sects. The mountain is covered in fields of blank tombstones, beneath which lie the members of Xuanmen, a mysterious sect wiped out a hundred years ago.
Xuanmen's path of cultivation was utterly different from that of the many cultivation sects. They never suppressed or killed restless spirits. Instead, they believed in easing their obsessions, soothing their regrets, and allowing the dead to find closure. This “gentle path” threatened the foundations of the great clans. If obsessions could be resolved and spirits laid to rest, the authority the clans relied on to command power by “suppressing evil and banishing spirits” would crumble. So, a hundred years ago, the five great clans joined forces and burned Xuanmen to the ground in a single night, erasing its teachings and removing it from the history books, branding it an “heretical path.”
Zhu Jiu, the sole survivor of Xuanmen, was sent by his master through a secret passage into the earth's ley lines. Trapped by his obsessions for a century, he is neither human nor ghost. He secretly sells spirit-calming stones and deliberately provokes strange phenomena throughout the world, all so that the erased Xuanmen can once again be seen...
It's a very nice novel, and it's written with such overwhelming emotions that I was really moved by it.
