King of Feng Shui: The Demon Child Defies Fate

The day I was born, nineteen bolts of heavenly lightning exploded above our courtyard.

The midwife said I was a demon child, with sharp teeth and white fur, laughing instead of crying. My grandfather invited Wu the Half-Immortal to read my fate. A fox spirit had possessed me, and I was destined to endure eighty-one calamities: three every three years, each one costing a life.

Wu the Half-Immortal carried me out of the village. The moment he stepped onto the stone arch bridge, blood poured from all seven orifices, and he died on the spot.

When I was eighteen, the white fox inside me awoke. She said, “You are descended from a traitor of the Wuxian Kingdom. The curses your ancestors brought upon themselves are yours to pay off, one by one. Nine mystical artifacts, nine curses, eighty-one calamities. Gather all nine artifacts, and you can either defy fate and change your destiny, or perish utterly.”

But the villagers don’t know that in this life, I, Shen Du, believe in just one thing:

What can subdue a hundred ghosts isn’t magic. It’s the human heart.
