On the Day I Called Off the Engagement, My Ex’s Powerful Uncle Asked to Marry Me

With the Shen family on the brink of bankruptcy, 21-year-old heiress Shen Chuying, now fallen on hard times, is set up at a banquet and accidentally stumbles into a man’s room. That night, she clings to him without realizing it, and they spend a wild night together. The next morning, she flees in a panic, only to have her fiancé, Lu Ming, publicly call off their engagement. Just as she hits rock bottom, the man she had mistaken for an antidote appears: Lu Huaici, a discreet and reserved power broker in Beijing’s elite circles, known for his ruthless methods. He is Lu Ming’s uncle, and nine years older than her.

They sign a prenuptial agreement and marry in a whirlwind, moving in together. Shen Chuying thinks it will be a dull marriage where they keep out of each other’s way, and carefully treats him with the respect due to an “elder.” She has no idea that an old flame is catching fire, beyond anyone’s control. By day, he is the strict mentor who cleans up her workplace messes and paves the way for her. By night, he pulls off his tie and pins her against the door, his voice husky: “Chuying, when are you going to see me as a man instead of an elder?”
