Young Master Xie Still Hasn’t Made It to the Top Today

[Dazzling heiress vs. sly, secretly passionate man; no rivalry between women, just men competing over her] Zhu Changning is the most doted-on young lady in the Duke of Dingguo’s household. She’s beautiful, well-born, popular, and living a wonderful life. At nineteen, she suddenly finds herself with a new problem: there seem to be quite a lot of people who want to marry her. A young general rides back to the capital from the border and announces in front of everyone that he’s come home to marry her. Her childhood friend hides sharp claws behind a smile, pretending not to compete while being as sly as they come. The ninth young master of the Shang family, who has come from Jiangnan, plays dirty: where others send flowers, he sends shops. Even the Prince of Commandery, who has never taken part in young people’s romantic rivalries, comes straight to her home to ask about her marriage. Then there’s Xie Lanheng, the refined gentleman whom everyone praises. He’s the most interesting of all. When other men pursue her, he says, “Sounds good.” When they send her gifts, he says, “Go ahead and keep them.” But when Zhu Changning really goes out on a date, he quietly follows her. At last, Zhu Changning can’t help asking, “Xie Lanheng, do you like me?” The man falls silent for a moment, then calmly denies it. “No.” Later, Zhu Changning truly begins considering marrying someone else. That night, the man who has played the gentleman for over a decade finally turns red-eyed. “Changning, don’t choose him.” Only then does Zhu Changning realize that some people may look noble and untroubled on the outside, but have been consumed with jealousy all along.
