Republican Era: From Suweier to the War of Resistance

Winter, 1918. Ukraine. He clutched a Chinese book no one could read, a fountain pen, and half a pack of cigarettes. He didn’t know Russian. The German soldiers pinned him to the railroad tracks as a spy: “No one can make out the two characters ‘Qin Lu.’”

But he had a pair of hands, skilled hands that could repair machines.

From a menial stoking fires in a broken boiler room to a weapons genius in the Red Army’s logistics corps; the laboratory of an ordinary “Chinese National University of Defense Technology” no longer existed. He was stranded a hundred years in the past at a Soviet train station, with no way out.

In everyone’s eyes, he was just a “Chinaman” who knew how to work.

Only he knew what these hands could build: things that could change the world.

He climbed step by step. The powerful men at the top of the tower would one day remember a name: “Andrei.”

But just as everyone thought he would stay in that land turned red, he turned around and boarded a train heading east. Because that was where his true home was.

And on that land, someone was waiting for him to mend iron and fire.

“Don’t ask what he wants. He wants the people of that land to live with their heads held high.”
