Audit Storm: Who’s Really Pulling the Strings?

[Officialdom + Workplace + Face-slapping] “Xiao Lu, get to the bottom of these accounts, and I’ll make sure you’re promoted to section chief!” The deputy mayor pushed a hefty ledger in front of me, his eyes full of expectation. I thought at last a poor student had made good, but I didn’t realize the ledger concealed deadly “encrypted data.” This wasn’t a stepping-stone to promotion at all. It was a noose the deputy mayor had set to eliminate his rivals and make me take the fall! Move forward, and I’d plunge into an abyss. Retreat, and my reputation would be ruined. I was backed up to the edge of a cliff. But I had an ace up my sleeve he could never dream of: the ultimate loophole in the auditing process. You think I’m a pawn you can manipulate and discard whenever you like? In fact, I’ve already turned his own tactics against him, weaving a net in Qingyuan Town that will swallow him whole! At the townwide meeting, the deputy mayor is about to announce my “evidence of guilt” in front of everyone. I toss down a stack of audit reports stamped with the official seal and calmly say, “Deputy Mayor, it’s time to settle this ten-million-yuan black account of yours.” At that moment, the entire county committee compound shakes. Your ace in the hole is nothing but my ticket to power! I’m going to ride this game all the way to the top!
