In 1928, the situation in Northeast China changed dramatically. Lu Zheng, a modern military researcher, unexpectedly arrived in that turbulent era and became Gu Weiyue, a young officer stationed at Beidaying.
Drawing on his understanding of the principles of warfare and the course of history, he began by reorganizing military affairs, improving training, stockpiling supplies, and reaching out to talented people, quietly preparing for the crisis to come.
Three years later, gunfire erupted outside Fengtian. Faced with a sudden attack and chaos, Gu Weiyue made a choice that changed his fate. He led his men in preserving their strength, escorting civilians, and protecting technical personnel, leaving behind a defiant force among the White Mountains and Black Waters.
From defending a single barracks, to protecting all of Northeast China, to joining the national war of resistance, this is the story of a soldier's growth, and of ordinary people standing watch over their homeland in a time of national crisis.
