Synopsis

After transmigrating to the late Han dynasty, Li Ru becomes the most underestimated schemer under Dong Zhuo. When the eighteen warlords unite to campaign against Dong Zhuo and his faction is beset by troubles both within and without, everyone believes Li Ru is merely a sinister adviser clinging to Dong Zhuo. What they don't know is that Li Ru has long memorized The Art of War and The Thirty-Six Stratagems, and is secretly plotting with the advantage of a thousand years of historical knowledge. First, he exploits divisions among the warlords to split their coalition. Then he uses Wang Yun's beauty trap to get rid of Dong Zhuo, only to turn around and kill Wang Yun, taking control of Chang'an. After Dong Zhuo's death, the land falls into chaos. Li Ru holds the emperor hostage, gathers the forces of Xiliang, resists the warlords, and secures Guanzhong. He kills enemy generals with spear formations on the battlefield and outmaneuvers the realm with his schemes. When Cao Cao holds the emperor hostage to command the warlords, Li Ru manipulates others into doing his dirty work, watches from the sidelines, and takes advantage of the chaos. As Yuan Shao grows powerful, Li Ru sows discord among his ranks, cuts off his supplies, and weakens his forces. When Liu Bei enters Shu, Li Ru sends out his death squads to attack from three sides. He appears patient and obsequious, but in truth he plans each step with care. The world thinks he is merely a former subordinate of Dong Zhuo, but he intends to end the age of chaos. From seizing power in Chang'an to the struggles among the Three Kingdoms, from dominating Guanzhong to uniting the realm, Li Ru leaves nothing to chance and strikes without hesitation. In the end, he rebuilds order through ruthless political scheming, becoming the true player moving the pieces in the late Han chaos.

Real Political Intrigue Fiction: Nothing Shallow or Brain-Burning, That’s My Taste

Reading this will make you wonder whether you have a brain. Highly, highly recommended. Everyone is smart, and the foreshadowing runs throughout the whole story. Anyway, I didn't understand a thing. It's just satisfying from start to finish. All I can say is the author's writing is insanely good.
