The Voluptuous Beauty of the Eighties Won’t Hide Who She Is

Her cousin refuses to marry a former military officer because his “hands are stained with blood,” and throws a fit, swearing she'd rather die than wed him.

As an orphan from the third branch of the family, broad-framed and full-figured Qiao Yannan is shoved forward by the first and second branches without a second thought, sent to take her cousin's place and jump into the fire pit.

Everyone is waiting to laugh when she gets rejected or beaten by her husband.

But at the matchmaking table, Qiao Yannan is upfront: “I'm standing in for someone else. If you don't like me, I'll leave right now.”

The stone-faced officer across from her eats three bowls of rice, then makes his decision on the spot. “You're honest. I'll marry you.”

After the wedding, her awful relatives come begging for money, while the other wives in the compound make snide remarks and try to lay down the rules.

Qiao Yannan drops the act. She tears into her parasitic relatives and kicks the scheming neighbor to the curb!

Even the man rumored to be cold-blooded and heartless speaks up when she's reported for “bringing shame on the family by running a private business.” His voice is icy: “My wife serves the country with her skills. Who dares object?”

Later, Qiao Yannan's incredible tailoring makes her famous throughout the city. Even the leaders' wives beg her to make their clothes.

Just as her awful cousin regrets everything and comes crying, hoping to steal the match back,

the usually restrained, abstinent man corners Qiao Yannan, his eyes red and his voice husky:

“Wife, when are you going to repay me for that Zhongshan suit you owe me?”
