The Three-and-a-Half-Year-Old Lucky Charm

When Lin Tuantuan was three and a half, a terrible famine struck the village.

As the only girl in three generations of the Lin family, she was the apple of everyone’s eye.

But the grain jar was nearly empty, and Grandma secretly wiped away her tears.

“Tuantuan, my dear... I’m afraid we can’t keep you fed.”

Three-and-a-half-year-old Lin Tuantuan blinked, then popped the last half of her steamed bun into Grandma’s mouth.

That night, she dreamed of a field shimmering with gold.

From then on, everyone in the village knew:

The little girl from the Lin family had been blessed with good fortune.

She casually tossed a stone, and it hit a fish.

She took a tumble, and unearthed ginseng.

She cried, and rain poured from the sky.

The villagers went from sighing, “What a shame she’s only a girl,” to lining up to beg:

“Tuantuan, could you give my field a little pat?”

Later, the most distinguished heir in the capital came to her door in person. “My little lucky star, who saved my life all those years ago, I’ve come to repay you.”

Lin Tuantuan: “? I only pointed at something!”

“My little lucky star, who saved my life all those years ago, I’ve come to marry you.”

Lin Tuantuan tilted her head. “Marry? Can I trade that for two pounds of meat?”
