The Earthly Fiend Daoist Scripture: Overcoming Calamity in the Mortal Realm

Chen Shouzhuo, a Taoist boy from a mountain village, was born under a deadly star and doomed to die alone. Every time he uses magic, his life is shortened. After his master vanishes, he follows a fragmentary manuscript into the mortal world, only to discover that the so-called “Heavenly Way” is nothing but a lie: Human suffering is the very sustenance that keeps the Heavenly Way alive. From haunted houses in mountain villages to eerie apartment blocks in the city, from ancient secret realms to battlefields punished by heaven, he encounters vengeful spirits who died unjustly, a beautiful scholar who wears another’s skin, and a corpse Buddha who gave his body to hold back a flood... Behind every strange case are living beings abandoned by the Heavenly Way. Seventy-two Earthly Fiend divine arts, and a heart of the Way that saves rather than destroys. At his side are Su Qinghe, a girl born with a spirit-rescuing body; Old Taoist Zhou, a smooth talker with a sense of honor; and Lin Yanqiu, a Taoist disciple who ultimately betrays his sect. Together, they traverse the rifts between yin and yang, uncover the truth behind the Earthly Fiend Daoist Sect’s destruction a thousand years ago, and at last stand before the embodiment of the Heavenly Way’s will: “The fate of all living beings should not be decided at the whim of the Heavenly Way.” This Chinese-style collection of supernatural tales runs over two million words, weaving standalone cases into a sweeping thread of destiny. If you’re tired of stories about “defying heaven to change one’s fate,” why not see this ultimate clash, where “obeying heaven is not the Way; saving people is the Way”? A glimmer of light in the mortal world can set the plains ablaze. The land knows no calamity because someone refuses to accept their fate.
