The Imperial Physician Is Pretending to Be Sick Again Today

In one sentence: A good-for-nothing doctor fakes illness at every turn to dodge her duties, while a scheming emperor plays along to keep his beloved by his side. The whole palace knows he has fallen for her, but she’s the only one who hasn’t caught on. Core premise: Shen Qingci, daughter of the Imperial Medical Academy’s chief physician, is mediocre at medicine but an expert at staying alive. She fakes fainting to pass her examinations, only to be appointed Imperial Physician by an imperial decree from her childhood friend, Emperor Xiao Heng, and tasked with overseeing his health and daily care. She keeps finding new ways to feign illness, slack off, and make her escape. He, in turn, indulges and favors her, doing everything he can to keep her close. Fifteen years ago, she pretended to be foolish to avoid being chosen as a consort. Fifteen years later, he willingly plays along just to keep her. There’s no such thing as a good-for-nothing imperial physician in this world, only a young woman someone carefully keeps tucked away in his heart.
