The Legend of the Eight Immortals

Forget those cliched legends about immortals! The Eight Immortals were ordinary people, each with their own weakness: a lame physician, a fallen general, a scholar lovesick over a woman, a cool and aloof herbalist, a wandering child singer, a reclusive Taoist, a gentle musician, and a world-weary imperial uncle. A bizarre plague that threatens to destroy the world forces these eight strangers together, sending them across the land. Bureaucrats in Heaven who turn a blind eye to the suffering of mortals, East Sea dragons who exploit fishermen, and deep-sea monsters that devour human hearts: danger closes in on them at every turn. They quarrel and rely on one another along the way, as one strange event after another unfolds. The plague targets only those who embody the Eight Virtues. The dragons repeatedly let them escape on purpose. Heaven never delivers the killing blow. Somewhere in the shadows, a plan laid down ages ago seems to surround the eight of them. Their voyage across the East Sea conceals a secret powerful enough to overturn the boundary between immortals and mortals.
