Throughout the Great Jing court, everyone knows the two most powerful ministers are bitter enemies.
Shen Jici, the regent who wields immense power and makes ruthless decisions, is cold and unfeeling. He regards the newly appointed censor Wen Yu as a thorn in his side.
At court, every word between them is barbed, and neither will yield an inch in their political disputes.
Rumors spread throughout the land, and the officials are certain: these two will be enemies for life.
This is all the world sees:
Shen Jici curbs Wen Yu’s authority, clips his wings, ruins his career, and targets him at every turn.
Wen Yu is proud and unbending. He argues his case every time and fires back in public, hatred in his eyes.
No one knows that this three-year feud, this constant clash and confrontation, is nothing but an act put on for the treacherous ministers and the emperor.
Three years ago, a shocking frame-up brought disaster upon Wen Yu’s entire family.
With the emperor pressuring him and treacherous ministers closing in, Shen Jici had no choice.
He severed their ties with his own hands and played the heartless villain. Bearing a lifetime of infamy, a stain on his name, and the hatred of everyone around him, he faced the abyss alone, all to keep Wen Yu safe and unharmed for the rest of his life.
Under the guise of an enemy, he concealed his deep devotion and watched over Wen Yu in secret for three years.
He thought it was all just an act, a way to play along and keep up appearances.
Until, time and again, they stood side by side between life and death, time and again, they supported each other through desperate situations, and time and again, their feelings surfaced despite their utmost restraint
Shen Jici finally understood.
In this act performed for the world, he alone had fallen deeply in love with Wen Yu, and there was no turning back.
Later, the turmoil subsided, and the clouds parted to reveal the sun.
