[Sweet romance] + [calm, meticulous criminal investigator] + [imaginative, eccentric illustrator] + [a sweet collision of reason and emotion]
[From straight-man-style romance to mutual devotion] + [comedy and sweetness in equal measure, no angst, pure sweetness]
When Lin Xiao Nuan, an illustrator with an overactive imagination and a tendency to be absent-minded, hits a creative block, she takes her sketchbook to a café to secretly snap reference photos. There she runs into Lu Chen, a serious, “steel-straight” criminal investigator in the middle of an operation. Mistaking Xiao Nuan for a suspect, he pins her down.
Xiao Nuan’s sketchbook accidentally captures the suspected criminal’s features, making her a key witness in the case.
Because of the investigation and the potential risks, Lu Chen is ordered to begin a forced “cohabitation” arrangement with witness Lin Xiao Nuan, keeping watch over her around the clock.
From then on, a ray of sunshine named Lin Xiao Nuan barges into Lu Chen’s rigid, meticulous world.
Lu Chen draws up a full page of “cohabitation rules,” while Xiao Nuan fights back with a barrage of reaction-image posters. When danger strikes, she also becomes the one unexpected variable in all his calculations.
And he protects this unexpected variable in the most Lu Chen way possible:
He gives her a “Personal Safety Consultant” badge, complete with a key to his home; writes her a “Practical Report on Romantic Relationships”; and rehearses a proposal in tear-gas smoke, as a cautionary example. At last, in the home they know so well, he completes their ultimate bond with the words, “I want to wake up beside you every day and protect you legally.”
When a police radio suddenly crackles to life at their wedding, he calmly replies, “I’m off duty today.”
When a year later, on a sunny afternoon, the radio again brings news of a teammate’s slip of the tongue about “paternity leave”…
They look at each other, then toward the brand-new chapter waiting in their future.
