Fleeing Famine with My Medical Skills, I Made a Barren Town Thrive

[Fleeing Famine and Farming] [Traditional Chinese Medicine and Infrastructure] [Adorable Brother with Superhuman Strength] [Political Schemes and Clearing a Wrongful Conviction] [A Powerful Team-Up]

From the start, there's only a handful of coarse rice left in the bowl. Outside, years of drought and rampant disease are compounded by vicious relatives looking to seize the family estate!

Su Jinnian, a modern doctoral graduate in traditional Chinese medicine, wakes up as an orphan in a time of famine. She looks at the five-year-old boy in her arms, whose natural strength lets him smash rocks with one punch, and calmly rolls up her sleeves. No need to panic. First, they flee the famine!

Short on food and medicine along the way? With a handful of herbs and a few silver needles, she saves a gravely ill old woman and trades medical care for food, all while laying down the rules.

Officials and gentry monopolize the water supply? She leads the refugees to settle in the abandoned town of Liuxi, opening medicinal herb fields, repairing canals, building granaries, and establishing a school. She transforms a wasteland where nine out of ten homes stand empty into a paradise overflowing with grain and renowned throughout the land!

Along the way, she even rescues a gravely wounded, stone-faced guard from a pile of corpses. She plans to keep him in town to teach the able-bodied self-defense, but who knew the rough fellow would turn out to be a military marquis of the imperial court, carrying the injustice of an entire family wiped out!

When a powerful minister rebels and an army surrounds the town, intent on seizing Liuxi's grain, Su Jinnian calmly closes her medicine case. "If you want to lay a hand on the people and granaries under my protection, have you asked the needles in my hands and my brother's fists first?"
